All homes, especially older homes, have holes in them. Whether they’re large or small, those holes can lead to a big problem. Every wall outlet, light switch, duct vent, ceiling light or fan, plumbing pipe or bath fan could be a place where air is escaping from your home.
A key component in Tidewater Insulators’ Comfort Home Program is our air sealing package. This can help reduce and stop all of the above problems in your home by making sure your home is as air tight as possible. Learn more by calling 757-828-0024 today.
Do you notice any of the following in your home?
All of these are signs you might have air leaks in your home. Did you know that, according to the U.S. Department of Energy:
We recommend that you try the following experiment. Stand in your kitchen and count the number of wall outlets in the room. Now add the number of overhead lights, light switches and heat and air conditioning vents. Now, add 3 to that total (for your kitchen sink’s water lines and drain pipe). Take that number and add 1 more if your stove vents to the outside of your home. What’s your final count?
Now, add up the numbers for the rest of the rooms in your home. Let’s face it: that’s a lot of air escaping from and entering your home. Can lights, bath fans and drops over kitchen and bath cabinets are other major areas where air escapes. Putting them together can be the equivalent of leaving a window open 24 hours a day every day.
Our Comfort Home Specialists find those holes and seal them, so your home can be air tight. You’ll be amazed how air sealing will increase the comfort, air quality and energy efficiency of your home. We also offer energy audits to pinpoint ways to help improve your home’s efficiency.

Air sealing is reducing the amount of air that leaks into and out of your home to improve its overall energy efficiency and comfort. To reduce or eliminate air leakage, you need to find the source of the air leaks and cover them. Caulk and weatherstripping are two common air sealing techniques.
Sealing air leaks helps maximize the energy efficiency of your home. A lot of air leaks into and out of your house on a daily basis—the attic, windows, doors and walls are the biggest culprits. Using caulk, weatherstripping or another method to air seal ensures your home is as energy-efficient as possible, helping you save money and live more comfortably.
Air leaks can undermine the performance of insulation. If your home is properly insulated but has air leaks that aren’t sealed, it isn’t as energy-efficient as it could be.
We provide energy audits to help homeowners save money and live more comfortably.
